When you are talking about the past and mention the process of something that is always true, what tense would be correct to use in that sense? For instance, in my other post, I talked about foods, their preparation and taste. Even though the whole event had happened in the past, the process of preparation probably stay the same regardless of when it occurred. Like for instance : I went to India last year and had a very tasty dish I've never had before. It was a roast chicken cooked in a savoury sauce.
I got/received/gained a Political Science degree from Tokyo University. _________________ Keep it simple ... Keep it interesting. |

Thanks for your prompt response. So, the whole event must be portrayed in past tense then. For second problem, can you elaborate further why it is wrong to use "of" in first sentence? |

You could only say from the University of Tokyo.
Your sentence was gramatically incorrect. Sorry. _________________ Keep it simple ... Keep it interesting. |

You use from to indicate what is the source or provider of something. The Tokyo University is the provider of your degree. Here are some verbs that are typically followed by from: beg, borrow, buy, come, elicit, extort, get, glean, inherit, obtain, receive... _________________ con·text - The part of a text or statement that surrounds a particular word or passage and determines its meaning. |
