1.Though many European contries can boast of having a number of female top executives, many of them work in companies _________ their husbands or families.

a. impoverished by
b. compelled by
c. interrupted
d. founded by
e. imposed upon

I think the answer is D, but somebody say to me that's B!
Would you tell me why D is correct, and why B is not correct?

In additional, I am wondering whether a sentence 'Compelled by their husbands, many women work in business.' is gramatically correct or not.
If that is not correct, would you also tell me why not?

Please tell me why D is correct? #2 (permalink) Tue Jun 02, 2009 5:38 am   Please tell me why D is correct?

B is wrong. To be compelled is to be forced.

D is correct. The husband is the founder of the company.

You sentence too is correct.

Kitos.
