Confusing sentences: He will graduate from ABC College in March. #1 (permalink) Sat Jun 06, 2009 6:33 am   Confusing sentences: He will graduate from ABC College in March.

Hi teachers,

here are some sentences that I am not sure if they are all grammatically correct:

1. He is expected to be graduated in March.
2. He expects to be graduated in March.
3. He will be graduated in March.
4. He will graduate from ABC College in March.

could you kindl help clarify please?

Thank you.

Kitty

Hello, Kitty

You're using the 'to be' verb incorrectly (unnecessarily) in your sentences.

1) He is expected to graduate in March.
2) He expects to graduate in March.
3) He will graduate in March.
4) He will graduate from ABC College in March. (correct)

Hello Kitty,

I agree with Skrej's rewording of sentences 1, 2 and 3.

Basically, you used the verb "to graduate" in an old-fashioned way in those sentences.
You can find more information about the usage of the verb "to graduate" here:
http://www.bartleby.com/61/46/G0214600.html

Take care.
