Good morning,

I wonder if this following dialogue is logical.

A: What do you do on Thanksgiving Day?

B: We say "thank-you" to others.

I mean: Can we describe Thanksgiving Day as a

festival on which we say "thank-you" to others?

Please tell me.

Thank you!

Hello Cinderella,

We don't normally give thanks to others, but the usual phrase is rather 'to give thanks'.

The idea originally wasn't to give thanks to others, but to give thanks to God, and as a harvest celebration. It began as a religious holiday, and still has religious undertones, but has evolved into a more secular holiday. It is now a celebration of things you are grateful for in general.

The pilgrims held the original Thanksgiving feast as a celebration of having survived their first harsh winter, and bringing in their first harvest. They invited neighboring Native Americans to join them, and thus the tradition of joining family and friends to celebrate.

Heh, I can't speak to that, as I'm American. We seem to be the only English speaking country that doesn't recognize it, for some reason.

I believe it's about giving gifts (or gift boxes) to the less fortunate.
