Good morning Phipili, you haven't supplied sufficient context to make a true explanation possible.

It could relate to someone who doesn't want to take credit for something he has done, such as, " I'm not a hero. " after having saved a life, or maybe the excuse ......

" It wasn't my fault that the accident happened."

In each case they are reducing their involvement in whatever happened.
