After a few minutes he restarted the engine and drove around the block, returning to his still vacant parking place. This time he entered the shop with a red suitcase which he placed on the counter.
" There ya'go Mr.S," he said. Three million of your pounds."
Stentors hands were shaking as he opened the suitcase to see huge amounts of brand-new fifty-pound notes. He counted the bundles, which where in multiples of twenty thousand pounds, and was overcome with pleasure.
" Thank you ever so much Sir, and I'm so sorry that you were inconvenienced by this formality", he blurted out.
"Think no more about it Mr.S, the guy in the bank assured me that what you told us was the normal practice with large cheques. No problem. I'm just happy that my little gal will have her necklace for tomorrow."
Veronica was delighted and shook Stentor by the hand.
" Thank you so much Mr.S for making my day."
Stentor couldn't wait to see the back of them, and after shaking Tex warmly by the hand, he ushered them to their car. As the Daimler pulled away he waved them a cheery goodbye. .................................

I checked my watch and started my thirty minutes countdown. So, they had pulled it off. Now it was my turn to play my part. My mouth was dry and I was beginning to feel the tension building within me. Just keep your nerve and all will go well,I kept telling myself.

Veronica and I had had pulled off many scams over the years, but this was surely the biggest we had ever been involved in. I kept reminding myself that if this went wrong then we would be spending a very long time out of the sunlight. The plans that I had been making for my future involved plenty of sunshine, and the thought of this job going wrong only served to harden my resolve. For far too long I'd been forced to live by my wits, and in doing this, the returns that I had gotten were meagre considering the work I'd had to put in. Sure, I'd never had to do a days work, but even so, I hadn't been living in the lap of luxury by anyone's standards.
Well, all that was going to change. From now on Kit Daemon would be snapping his fingers and making others jump around. The ultimate prize was mine for the taking, and I was going to grasp it with both hands.

I smiled as I thought of just how smug Al and Veronica must be feeling right about now. They had gotten away with the perfect scam, and now they were only waiting for me to play my part. Veronica would be assuring Al that I was up to pulling this off. Little did they both realise that before this day was through that they would have confederates searching high and low for me.
OK, the thirty minutes were up and I drove to the spot that Al's Daimler had vacated, Pulling down the brim of my trilby, I took a deep breath and entered the store This was it ........................
