Whaaaat???
I'm find that difficult to believe. I do know that heat is bad for cd/dvds, and you do want to avoid excessive heat and sunlight, but actual cold storage? Cool, yes, but cold?
I'd be worried about condensation, taking them from cold storage into your machine. _________________ Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.

This information comes from a computer company in the Usa. They are working with storing datafiles. I will try to find the paper there I read it so I can give you the right name of the computer company. As you are a native speaker of English I am sure you don't mix the word freese with fridge and the long word is refridgerator as my dictionary says. And have to trust my dictionary as I happen to be Swedish sorry... Have that word changed it's meanings reacently? The word hey has done so and it puzzles me. /Maria |

Hi Now I have found the paper where I read this. The name of the company which recommend that is US National Media Library. I havn't visit there homepage as I may find the text to hard to read as I am Swedish... If you happen to put them in the freeze instead of your fridge or forget them in a car for example in the winter you ought to copy them before using them for a long time in your computer. /Maria |

Check your cd's and DVD's you use very often once a week with cdcheck. A CD och DVD you have recorded yourself will last for a very short period if you use it daily. For exemple if you download language files in English and listen to them for some weeks. /Maria |

I have heard that water does not damage a CD. But I have never heard of this fridge thing. Why don't you try that and tell us about the result.

I can tell you about the result after 10 years but this had been proved by the US National Media Library. They tell American autorities how to store their datafiles. So it's not a joke. Email them and ask if you don't trust me. /Maria |

I do trust you. Do you trust the source of the information? |

Yes I trust the source of information. I haven't read any bad articles on the net after that article was published. I have got some milk destroyed as it is harder to close the fridge door when your fridge is almost full. But milk is cheaper than cd's and DVD's. It dosen't matter if you drop some milk on them but it's best to have them in boxes. I don't know what will happen if you drop other things like juice for example. Don't rub cd's and DVD's if that would happen. Just rince them with water. Rubbing will destroy the surface. There are special types cd's which can be rubbed but of types of cd's will be destroyed. /Maria |

If you don't store your cd's and DVD's in the fridge and use them a few hours a months they will last for just 3 years. I have experience of that and so says the US National Media Library. If you use them more often they will last for a few months. I have experience of that too. But I have no experience of how long they last if I store them in the fridge as I have started to do that recently. But I know that floppy discs last for 10 years as many computer books says if you don't use them to often but floppy discs shall not be stored in the fridge. /Maria |
