Kit Daemon. Chapter 11. (Having finished my meal I returned to my room.) #1 (permalink) Mon Jun 15, 2009 8:50 am   Kit Daemon. Chapter 11. (Having finished my meal I returned to my room.)

Having finished my meal I returned to my room.
There was a phone on my bedside, and I phoned Heathrow Airport to confirm that my flight to Bulgaria tomorrow was on schedule. It was, and I thanked the operator and rang off. That was one flight that I wasn't intending to make. It had taken most of my ready cash to book that flight, and the one leaving Stanstead two days later, because I knew that Al had connections at both airports, and the departure lists would be being checked for my name on all flights from both airports. This ploy would keep him off my trail for the next three days at least. Another wild-goose chase for him.
In the meantime I would be spending the next few days just lazing around here in the beautiful country-side.

The next day I went into Carlisle to a company where I had made an appointment to see the manager with a view to opening a Swiss bank account. This was a highly reputable company with years of experience in performing such transactions. I arrived promptly and was ushered into a luxurious office where the manager was seated behind an enormous oak desk.
"Good morning Mr,...er..Smith. I understand you wish to have us establish an account in a Swiss bank on your behalf," he said as he shook my hand.
" Exactly. That is my requirement," I replied.
" And for what amount of money would the account be credited sir?," he asked.
" Two point eight million pounds", was my cool reply.
" Please, do take a seat Mr.Smith and I'll just run through the formalities of opening the account."
We went through the paperwork in no time, and I asked how long it would take to have the account open.
" After the cash is deposited with us we can have the account activated within three days sir," he replied.
" Good, give me a couple of hours and I'll be back with the money," I said. " Oh, and by the way, I also have one hundred thousand pounds that I would like breaking down into smaller denominations. Can you do that today?"
" Certainly sir, no problem at all."
" We shook hands and I left his office.

I returned to my hotel, retrieved the suitcase, and returned to the city once more . Entering his office, we went through the hand-shaking routine again and I hefted the suitcase, minus one hundred thousand pounds , onto his desk. He had an assistant count the money and pass it through a counterfeit scanner at the same time.
After the transaction was completed I left his office once again with a secret serial number in my memory, and one hundred thousand pounds in smaller bills in the now much-lighter suitcase. I headed into the city-centre to do a little spending.

Two hours later, laden down with new suits and shirts etc., I headed back to the hotel. I was near exhaustion when I finally reached my room. I was too exhausted to go down to the restaurant, so I ordered a meal to be brought to my room, along with a bottle of whiskey. While this was being prepared I took a quick shower and was ready and waiting when it was delivered to my door. I tipped the waitress and locked the door. Eating my meal I reviewed my present position.

I had a Swiss account now, so two point eight million was as safe as houses, no matter what happened. I had a new wardrobe and one hundred and ninety thousand pounds in a new secure security case that I had bought in Carlisle. Now I had only to kick my heels for a few more days before leaving good old England in my wake.

I really do mean my wake for I was booked on a cruise to warmer climes, and I hadn't quite decided just where I would jump ship.
