ok, but what does 'distinction' mean in : 'To hold the distinction of' ? How can I hold it?

'To hold the distinction of' = to receive the honourable mention?

Many thanks

'hold' is used to indicate that you have been given that distinction and you still have it.

he was the previous record holder (the person who held the record previously) but he has now been beaten.

You should never try to translate or look at separate words. For example, the verb 'hold' can have hundreds of meanings depending on the content. Look at this fixed phrase: ... this also 'holds true' for other people. In this sentence, 'hold true' is a fixed phrase and 'hold' simply means 'is'.
