It is pointing out that whatever you are doing is being done in the wrong manner, and that someone else, who has done this before, will show you the correct way to do it.

Hi EH,
'Put you right' suggests 'give you some good advice' 'tell you the correct/best way to do something'.
If you hear someone giving incorrect information about a subject you know well, you can possibly start saying: Let me put you right on that. What you want to do is this ...
