A man is known by his company. During childhood the environment within the family plays a crucial role in the development of the character or personality of a person. In adulthood however, friends play a pivotal role, and they are more influential than the family for so many reasons.
Some of these cardinal reasons are given below.
First, the amount of time spent with friends. Generally, young adults are more intimate with their friends, either in school or at the work place, or even in their leisure time. So,the behaviour of their co-workers or classmates has a stronger effect than the family.
Second, fear of being made an outcast from the friend group. It may cause positive or negative impacts on the adults. For instance, if all of the friends are scholars and get good grades at university exam ,then this may fuel one to work harder in order to keep pace with their scholarly friends.
On the contrary, assume that all of the friends are chain smokers and bellicose. Then this might produce detrimental effects over the adults. Many other things are also changed, for example, how one dresses, how one speaks, changes in attitudes and lots more.
To sum up, it is not to say that family doesn't have any influence on the adulthood. Families can guide the young adult in the right way. But I think that up to adulthood a person is initially affected by their family, then after that they are more likely to be affected by their friends just because of the greater intimacy, and the fear of being isolated from the friends. _________________ Keep it simple ...
