Hi Penuel,

The difference between 'rise' and 'raise' follows the same pattern as 'lie' and 'lay'.

'Rise' and lie' do not take an object but simply state going up or being horizontal as in:

The cost of living is rising all the time and ships are lying in the harbour with many goods that nobody can afford to buy.

'Raise' and 'lay' take an object and mean make higher and put down as in:

Employers are not raising wages this year and are laying plans on the table to reduce the number of jobs.
