Why don't you simply practice your pronunciation using our online voice recorder? Here is how I pronounce 'words' and 'worse' as well as 'oil'. _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |

| I've been meaning to ask this question but didn't find appropriate time until now. Why some voice file play back flawlessly when some just only popped an empty window and don't produce a peep. I have latest version of Java installed on my system and couldn't figure what causing this. By the way, this one works just fine and thank you for that. |

Hello,
The S sound at the end of "words" should be pronounced differently from the S sound at the end of "worse". The S sound at the end of "words" is similar to the Z sound at the beginning of "zoo" or "zebra". The S sound at the end of "worse" is like the S sound at the beginning of "simple" or "sad".
(Torsten, I might equate the final sound in "worse" with the "ss" sound used in German -- as in the German word "Schloss".)
In addition, the pronunciation of "worse" should sound shorter than the pronunciation of "words".
Cheers. (The final S in "cheers" is like the final S in "words".)
