In this case the distance between "f" and "s" is only one "ascimile" which is much less than a mile. :D |

No, distance between "i" and "s" is "mile" and 1st 4 characters "facs", so totally "mile+4 letters" is the longest word  |

A mile may be too short even when you walk along the beach with your another half !!!
How about parsec, kiloparsec, megaparsec, gigaparsec? 1 Parsec = 206,264.806 Astronomical Units or 3.26156 light-years ( 1 Astronomical Unit is roughly equal to the mean distance between the Earth and the Sun.) ( 1 Parsec = 19,173,500,000,000 miles ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parsec
Also tera-, peta-, exa-, zetta-, and yottaparsec. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yotta-
And even xenna-, vendeka-, googol- and googolplex-parsec http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig/kinsella6.html
I hope you might find interest in the above information. It’s my pleasure to share with you all.
Happy Canada Day !

Dear, Nick, but we are after the longest word, not the distance units. For a word to be long, it should have a distance unit within it, like: SmileS :-)
Have a nicer try. :-) |

Hi Iraqi,
Oh yes, I have missed typing the letter ‘s’ after the letters of “p a r s e c”.
They should be written as :
kiloparsecs, megaparsecs, gigaparsecs, teraparsecs, petaparsecs, exaparsecs, zettaparsecs, yottaparsecs, xennaparsecs, vendekaparsecs, googolparsecs and googolplexparsecs.
Now, as in the above examples, the first few letters of each word is a ‘parsec’ away from the last letter ‘s’. Do they fulfill the requirement ? Please comment !
( 1 parsec is approximately equal to 19,173,500,000,000 miles )

With no clue about its meaning, what I am left with is a mere guess :)

To combine Nick's question with Gray's comment, I have come up with this equasion:
Mister History= Mister Mystery :-) |
