i think" stay" here doesn't parallel with "prefered".

Hello Darkangel,

I have suggested some improvements for the wording in your original post.

The answer is stay.
Is there anyone who can explain it?

Now here is the answer to your question:

The word "stay" is the present subjunctive in your sentence.

The present subjunctive has exactly the same form as the bare infinitive of the verb. Here are three more examples:

- Our boss insists that we be ten minutes early for every shift.
- Susan demanded that he stop lying to her.
- It is extremely important that all of the errors be corrected.

The present subjunctive is a verb form that basically has little connection with time. It is a "mood", not a "tense".

That was a typo and it's very easy to miss that sort of errors. Now I have learnt to preview my messages before sending them to the forum.
