What was your degree? vs. What was your degree in? #1 (permalink) Wed Jul 01, 2009 6:22 am   What was your degree? vs. What was your degree in?

Hi,

I have some quesitons on the two questions I put in "Subject" blank.

I think the first one, "What was your degree?" asks whether you are a bachelor, a master, or a doctor. On the other hand, "What was your degree in?" asks what your major was- like English, history, etc. Am I right? Actually, I'm pretty sure for the latter one, but I'm not sure for the first one. Please help me!

Thanks,
sweetpumpkin

I would agreed with you; however, I would say What IS your degree, and what is your agree in? As you still have your degree and you are not dead, that is why present tense is more appropriate to my mind. But it is "What was your major?" as you do not study any more.

Oh, I agree with you. I just wanted to know the difference between "with in" and "without in". Thanks for attention, Natasha!
