I think the most important characteristic of a good friend is understanding. Because you spend almost of your time together with your friend, she/he should know who you are, what is you favorite thing, then you guys can have a lots of fun. Also when you get in to a trouble, she/he should understand the situation and what you want to do to give you a good advise.
