Q. Lent is a period of fasting observed in many Christian churches. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts until Easter. The day before Ash Wednesday is Shrove Tuesday, and in some cities a merry and lively festival called the Mardi Gras is held on that day. For many, the Mardi Gras is the last merry celebration until after ________.

a. Easter

b. Ash Wednesday

c. Sunday

D. good Friday

Someone insists on 'a. Easter' but I don't know why 'a' is correct?

Who tell me the reason?

The question has nothing to do with your knowledge of English language and has a lot to do with your knowledge of Christian holidays.
