In the office we use parallel phone, so every room has a phone.
On my desk the button “transfer” was broken.

A week ago someone called and asked me to transfer to other room, it’s a problem for me.
So I answer like this:

The transfer “button” is broken and I’m going to another phone, and please close the phone and call back in 2 minutes.

Is that a correct answer?

Thanks a lot for the answers.

"I'm so sorry. I'm unable to transfer you at the moment because the transfer button is broken. Could you please call back in a couple of minutes, by which time it (the phone) will have been replaced."

Unfortunately, if you want to give a full explanation to the caller, then that is the shortest reply.

You could just say, " Please call back in a short while," but the caller might not be very happy about your response.
