2. Please tell me what did prof. Jon write.

1. An indirect question does not require inversion.

I think the 1st one is correct

If you extract the 2nd part of the 2nd sentence, you have "what did Prof. Jon write" and this is a question, not a statement making a part of the sentence.

Replace "Prof. Jon" by "You", we have "what you wrote" and "what did you write" (This is a question right?)

And I think you can see what I mean

Please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you.
