dear friend,

Check out this sentence, " I would not have ask you if i knew it".

Why it is not 'know' instead of 'knew'

Hi Gerald,

Your sentence is a conditional one and should read:

I would not have asked you if I knew/I had known.

'Knew' is a so called unreal past, which is like a subjunctive in English.
