Hey, I was helping my dad with something he plans to publish. I've been able to answer most of his questions, but a couple I didn't know. If you guys could help, I would be very grateful.
Is it acceptable when quoting to place an ellipses after other punctuation such as semi-colons and commas (so as to show it's a new independent clause, but there was unnecessary info you still wanted to skip)?
If you're quoting from a book where there's the title of something on one page, and the actual part you want to quote on another (but you still want the title in your own work), do you have to place quotes around the title separately from the quote? Or are you able to just quote the paragraph and list the page the title was found in the end note with the quote page? For example, here's how I would quote and reference it if I were to use one for every new page and/or line break:
The Pioneer National Negro Convention, 1830:1 Minutes of the Convention2 "As much anxiety has prevailed..." 3 To the Free People of Colour of these United States'4 "It will be much to the advantage..."5
1. Pg. 98 2. 104 3. 105 4. 106 5. 106
Would I need quotes around the titles and subtitles, or is this okay? Or is there any easier way to combine this so as to not have end notes literally everywhere? And finally, The Pioneer National Negro Convention is actually in all caps. Do I need to leave it that way?
Thanks again! |
