Commonly used "i've got a word" is 'got' necessary?

when in the sentence commonly used "i've got a word" is 'got' necessary? is it not enough to say "i've a word" with the contraction spelled out being "i have a word"? ...implying that one 'owns' or 'holds for use' a word.
('word' in this case is just an example. you can substitute any noun.)

Unfortunately, it is correct.

My suggestion; Never use got unless you absolutely have no alternative, which will almost be never.
