19. Should governments spend more money on improving roads and highways, or should governments spend more money on improving public transportation (buses, trains, subways)? Why? Use specific reasons and details to develop your essay.

Nowadays people use transport (public or their own) every day. Unfortunately, some people die in car accidents or break their automobiles often because of the bad condition of roads and highways. Therefore I think that governments should spend more money on improving them.

First of all, roads and highways are used from everybody – people with their own transport and people using public transport. An all these people need good roads in order to feel secure and safe. Some catastrophes happen because of the bad conditions of roads. Only a little part of the population will use public transport, most of the people use their own one. Even the fact that their number is bigger supports my opinion.

Second of all, even the best automobiles will easily go broken without good roads and highways. Most of the cars could reach very high velocity, which people cannot use because of the speed limits. Furthermore, a normal car and a normal condition of the public transport will do a useful work but only when roads are in perfect working order. In this case, public transport and people’s automobiles will work better and there would be fewer accidents and traffic jams. Even a little hole could cause catastrophes or could broke somebody’s automobile, which also could cause traffic jam and lots of troubles for many people. Nevertheless, most of the catastrophes happen because of people’s mistakes but even good roads and highways or very good automobiles couldn’t prevent them.

Finally, roads and highways could be used from foreigner, so they’re visiting cards of a country. Sometimes people only cross a country but could also have a vacation in a foreign country or live there, etc. It would make a very bad impression if roads and highways are in bad condition.

In brief, governments should invest more money in roads because they could be used from everybody, their good condition will cause less accidents, standstills and automobile problems and also could be a good visiting card for tourists.
