Hi,
Don't despair have a look at the main site and look for esl lessons and in the index there is a heading: Future. Have a read of what I have written there and see if that helps you.
Good luck

One day I hope I shall win the lottery One day I hope I will win the lottery One day I hope I should win the lottery
First is O.K. In the second you use 'Hope' and will " I think it is good to write, "One day, I will win the Lottery." The third should read, " One day I should win a lottery." Use of " I hope' will change the meaning further.. nanu. |

Hi ESL Learner,
Back to your original question about:
One day I hope I shall win the lottery. One day I hope I will win the lottery. One day I hope I should win the lottery.
The idea behind hope is that you are looking forward optimistically to an event in the future. The first two: I hope I shall and I hope I will are therefore acceptable and make sense. Should however introduces another element and that is often related to ought to and the combination of should and hope doesn't really work and at other times it is linked to a condition where the combination is also unworkable. In other words I should win ... either means I ought to win or I should win if I had some luck.
