Topic: Plants can provide food, shelter, clothing or medicine. What is one kind of plant that is important to you or people in your country ?
This is my essay:
The bamboo has been (V)ietnamese peoples' friend for a long time. In the war time, the bamboos helped hide (V)ietnamese armies and became a steady shield of the home village. The bamboo is the most impo(r)tant kind of plant to people in my country and they use bamboos for many purposes.
The shoots of bamboo are edible. In war time, bamboo shoot is the main sour(c)e of food for (V)ietnamese soldiers. Nowadays, bamboo shoots are made into many dishes such as fried bamboo shoots or boiled bamboo shoots. Bamboos shoots are also used as an ingredient to form great tast(ing) dishes, especially the dish called “chicken and bamboo shoot noodle soup” which I like very much.
In addition, bamboos are used in construction. Bamboo is (a very) hard, lightweight, and durable wood. Therefore, bamboo is usually cut to build houses by (V)ietnamese farmers. In urban areas, bamboo is used as a scaffolding, or (as) a substitute for steel reinforcing rods in concrete construction. Many people like houses made of bamboo because they are very (airy) and charming.
Bamboo manna is used as a medicine to heal or to treat infections. Bamboo manna is a silicious concretion found in the culms of the bamboo stem. People use this concretion as a restorative for breathing illness. Because it is very hard to get, it has been largely replaced by synthetic silicic acid.
In conclusion, the bamboos are a benefi(c)ial plant to my people in (our) country. Bamboo shoots provide dishes which are not only delicious but also nutritious. Although bamboo manna is no longer widely used, it is (a) really good medicine for respiratory diseases, and no one can deny the usefulness of bamboo in construction because of its beauty and sustain(ability). Through many hundreds of years, bamboo (has) always (been) a loyal friend of (the) (V)ietnamese people and it has been a symbol of my country.
Sim, yet again, an excellent informative essay.
