How do we sue the preposition 'for'? #1 (permalink) Thu Aug 25, 2005 16:42 pm   How do we sue the preposition 'for'?

Hello

Thanks for helping me alwayse, now I encounter a problem regarding the use of for, I bought the invitation cards for my daughter's first birthday, in which some part of the invitation is written & we have to fill other the blanks like:

come to join fun, --------- is turning one

for;-------------
date-----------
time------------
place----------
rsvp-----------

my husband said we have to write the name of person we are inviting, I suppose it should be birthday party, please help me to resolve this matter as time is running out.
thanks

.
The blank in the sentence is for the name of the child whose birthday it is:

come and join the fun, Sarah is turning one.

In the following blank, labelled 'for'-- I suppose it means the name of the child being invited, as your husband says, but frankly, it is not clear to me.

I wouldn't worry about it, though, Amna-- the other basic information is there. I cannot think of any necessary information that is required by 'for'.
