"all people" vs "all the people" #1 (permalink) Sat Jul 25, 2009 20:45 pm   "all people" vs "all the people"

Please tell me which is correct:

1. I'm sending you the list of all people I have found in the cemetery.
2. I'm sending you the list of all the people I found in the cemetery.

Should we always use all + noun without 'the'? or is there a possibilty to use all the + noun - if so, when we should use it?

Thanks!

2. I'm sending you the list of all the people I found in the cemetery. This seems to be better. Here you have names of only those interred in that cemetery.
Normally when 'all' is followed by uncountable nouns we find 'the, my, his, her, their, these etc.' occurring in between.
best of luck, nanucbe.

all people/all the people #4 (permalink) Mon Jul 27, 2009 13:23 pm   all people/all the people

I have found in my grammar book, that we say ,, all day'' , ,,all week'', not ,,all the day'', ,,all the week''? So is it possible to say ,,all people''? and in which cases?
Thanks!

All day; all night #5 (permalink) Mon Jul 27, 2009 13:58 pm   All day; all night

All day; all night. I have heard that 'all' when followed by 'day or night' does not get 'the' after that. We write only 'all day; all night.' But when it is morning, evening or afternoon, we write 'all the morning, all the afternoon and all the evening.' I feel that these are more through usage. best of luck, nanucbe
