What are the qualities of a good neighbor
When I think of a neighbor, there are many things that come to mind. I personally have many ideas of how a good neighbor would be. Serviceable, and helpful to others. In addition to friendly, communicative, and more importantly honest. These are just a few of those qualities that makes a good neighbor.
The vast majority of people in my community are people from diverse cultural believes and customs. These plays a crucial role in the way neighbors see each other.
People from the same culture are more likely to become better neighbors than those of different ones. Trust is a big issue in North America these days, because of the high level of abuse. Not many people (allow) their children to go over to the neighbors house or even become to(o) friendly with them. It is hard to blame them for not trusting, when so many children are either sexually abused or kidnap(ped), and consequently killed. Everyone prefer to keep to themselves, and live a quiet life instead.
To me a good neighbor is that person who is there for you when you need an extra hand. Who comes in with a cake, or simply stops by to welcome you to the neighborhood. The person that's not shy to offer you a cup of tea. In my opinion, a good neighbor is a person with whom you can talk to about anything, with whom you exchange ideas, and suggestions about our daily living. For example, the best place to shop, or the best restaurants in the area, etc. My ideal neighbor would be someone who shows respect for the privacy of others, but can also be there when you need (them).
To conclude, I think that depending on your personality, and how good you are at making others feel appreciated, and treated with respect and honesty, then that's how many good neighbors you would have.
However, when you think about it, segregation which means ( the separation of people based on race, ethnic groups, or social class) also plays an important role in our society. Up to this day, there are many who prefer to interact with those people of their own cultural belie(fs) rather than having a relationship with anyone outside the(ir) cultural community. Like it or not this is a real fact, that still happens and which has a great affect on our lives.
