This is my first TOEFL Essay :) Thanks Gray for the topic. I'll write another ones basing on Kitos's advice later. I know last paragraph is not good, but I've written this in a hurry :) Anyway, please receive my appologies for the mistakes done beforehand. Thanks in advance.
Book is the best friend, knowledge is the best thing gained in this life. And keys to the door of knowledge are distributed to teachers. Remembering the first word written down, the first mathematical operations of subtraction and multiplication done, the first picture of my family drawn on a paper I realize I’m indebted to the teacher at primary school. The classes of Geography… Passing from Urals in Russia, from the North of the Caspian Sea to Turkey and etc. we were separating Asia from Europe. Without looking at the map with a rod in hands the best pupils were able to show nineteen West European countries… Teacher of the History were taking us to the trip in centuries. Mentally we have been to Egypt, saw the Pyramids, Pharaoh. We were witnesses of the First World War, the Second World war and it was absolutely incredible to see how the Land of Angels, England won the great Armada where a woman, Elizabeth the first ruled… We learned what is acceleration, speed, velocity, work, pressure. Lessons of the Physics taught we’ll loose something in life while gaining other things, as we lose in length when we gain in force. From the classics of the East, such as Fuzuli, poet of love, who was burning down from love to Nizami Gencevi, teaching us what was difference between characters of Good and Bad and continuing with the “Father de Goriot” by Balzak we learned what is to love a father, and what is the love of father to his kids… It would be sinful not to remember teachers of English language. Lala and Rolf Jensen were my favorites. Sometimes forgetting the grammar part we were chatting, and I knew this way they were improving my speaking skills… Unfortunately I can’t remember all of them in this short essay, but one thing is obvious. They taught us to most significant things, inspired and helped in everything.

Phoebe, The words come from nowhere but your heart directly. Tint them with the mind and you would have a marvelous mix :) _________________ First lesson - English, not english. I, not i. ~A student of English |

Book(s) (are our) best friend(s).
(K)nowledge is the best thing gained in this life. And (the) keys to the door(s) of knowledge are distributed to teachers.
Remembering the first word written down, the first mathematical operations of subtraction and multiplication done, the first picture of my family drawn on a paper, I realize I’m indebted to the teacher at primary school. The classes of Geography… Passing from Urals in Russia, from the North of the Caspian Sea to Turkey and etc. we were separating Asia from Europe. Without looking at the map, with a rod in (their) hands, the best pupils were able to show nineteen West European countries.
Teacher(s) of history were taking us (on a trip through the) centuries.
Mentally we have been to Egypt, (seen) the Pyramids and Pharaoh. We were witnesses (to) the First World War, the Second World war, and it was absolutely incredible to see how the Land of Angels, England won the great Armada where a woman, Elizabeth the first ruled.
We learned what is acceleration, speed, velocity, work, pressure. Lessons of the Physics taught we’ll (lose) something in life whi(st) gaining other things, as we lose in length (what) we gain in force.
From the classics of the East, such as Fuzuli, poet of love, who was burning down from love to Nizami Gencevi, teaching us what was difference between characters of Good and Bad, and continuing with the “Father de Goriot” by Balzak we learned what (it) is to love a father, and what is the love of (a) father to his kids. It would be sinful not to remember (our) teachers of English language. Lala and Rolf Jensen were my favourites.
Sometimes forgetting the grammar part (when) we were chatting, and I knew this way they were improving my speaking skills. Unfortunately I can’t remember all of them in this short essay, but one thing is obvious. They taught us (the) most significant things, (and) inspired and helped (us) in everything. _________________ Keep it simple ... Keep it interesting. |

I didn't say that it was a marvelous mix, I said it could have been ;)
In TOEFL, you have to balance "thinking" and "feeling". What you wrote reflects "feeling" alone. Just my personal opinion. _________________ First lesson - English, not english. I, not i. ~A student of English |

No, not an advice, I was just 'thinking' ;)
Well,
To think is to be awake, to feel is to be alive ;) _________________ First lesson - English, not english. I, not i. ~A student of English |
