Use of shall, should, has, have, would, could #2 (permalink) Mon Aug 10, 2009 10:28 am   Use of shall, should, has, have, would, could

Hi,

Let's start at the beginning:

I shall have worked here for 10 years suggests that at a time in the future that will be the number of years I have worked here.
I should have worked here for 10 years suggests it was right for me to work here for 10 years but I was stopped before the 10 years ended,
I would have worked for 10 years suggests a conditional sentence indicating 'if I had been allowed to.'
I could have worked here for 10 years suggests it would have been possible for me to work here for 10 years.
