G'day allan, here is the story of my trip to Sydney. It was time to have a break and refresh my brain. Last week I went to Sydney with my niece. Firstly, we caught a plane to Sydney airport, then we caught a train from the airport to the city. When we arrived there, we walked to the hotel. However, when we got there, they didn't have a booking for us! I was angry, tired and hungry. The hotelier told us we were in the wrong hotel. So we had to walk up a very steep hill with our luggage for another 20 minutes. Finally we arrived at the right place, but we were too early to check in, "come back at 2.00 pm." the hotelier said. It was 9.30 am! No shower, no breakfast! What could we do? "There was one small fly in the ointment"
After that, the hotelier told us that we could leave the luggage there, and that we could have a shower. He was very kind and had a heart of gold. So after we had a shower and walked back to the train station to catch a train to Chinatown. Then we went walking along the Sydney Bondi beach and had breakfast there. The food was nice, the restaurant's atmosphere was great with stunning views, and the price was reasonable.
Day 2 we went cruising on Sydney Harbour. It was the best cruise I have ever had in my life and I will never forget it. After that we walked around and showed my niece some of the most famous Sydney landmarks, like The Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, which are top spots in Australia. My niece loved it very much. We had a good time and got back home in one piece. Thank you for your lesson, Unchan. |

Hi Alan, Thinks for you essay and I realy like this idioms''kill two birds with one stone''. I have one question please: you said that ''I and my credit card inwardly groaned at the great expense'' is that mean you were not happy spending that money.
Thank you |

Hi Alan, the post was good but I feel that there is a little bit of bias in you description of France and it's people emanating rather from your own point of view and your preconceived notions and expectations. You could have been a little bit more balanced in your opinion. For example, the guy who was describing the food might do so out of courtesy excited at explaining his own culture as is the case with anyone who is proud of his heritage but it sounded more of a machination on their part, the way that you described it.At the end, the picture I got was that the French are an incapable, dis-organised and cold people and that the British are infinitely better except for their weather. With a mindset like this you would not enjoy even paradise also. Bishal Rai (Sampang) |

Hi' I am very sorry that I only have time to read the titles of the lessons you sent me. I've just glanced at the last essay. I'm really interested in your lessons. Thanks a lot for that. I'm preparing review lessons for my students now. They wiil have their last exam in 3 weeks. Therefore, I will have more time for my English lessons in July. I'm still weak at writing essays. So, I think I need these essays, and I can learn alot from essays like these. I hope you're always patient with me. I'm always eager to learn English although I'm now a teacher of English. Thank you very much. See you. |

Dear Alan, you surely didn't mean the following: we didn't send any 'Wish you were here' postcards to a single sole. Surely you didn't send to a single soul? Letters aren't addressed to soles - I take it that it was a slip of the computer keys... best rajam |

It seems you had some rough time in France. I learnt the meanings of few words that I didn't know before such as "undulate", "a fly in the ointment", "pubs" and some more. I am wondering how I am going to remember these words forever. Okay bye. _________________ I like this very much :-) |
