Hi Styris,

Please read this: Why stative verbs can't be used with present continuous?

By the way, where and how did you learn to type?

Alan, thank you very much for writing this essay. It was entertaining to read it and it reminded me about a vacation "disaster'' I have had in Florida 2 years ago. To make the long story short on that vacation everything which could possibly went wrong, really did.
Sometimes we need to take "vacation" from the vacation. After this particular one I remember feeling relieved just getting back home.

Hello Alan :)
I really enjoyed your assey, but I'm not eager to share your experience... :D

As for the idioms and phrases I found most of them unknown for me.
please tell me ,,went like a breeze'' means "to pass rapidly'' am I right?
and can you explain what "nodded off" means exactly?

thank you in advance

Hi Tamta,

Glad you liked the newsletter (essay). You're right about 'went like a breeze', which suggests that soemthing passed without incident or difficulty. As for 'nodded off', this means 'fell asleep' usually just for a brief period.

Hi Alan,

It was very interesting to read how you spent and described your vacation in France. There were new and lovely expressions we can learn from this fascinating newsletter. You made a geat effort by explaining those phrases and idioms which make our lives easier as learners and help us to get the total picture of the whole story. I have to admit that you are such a wonderful teacher that we can always learn from.

Many thanks,

Meera

Hi, Alan
I'm Henry. This is my first reply on the forum. I know there is no excuse to stop learning , however just too lazy.
And Wow, what a nice trip you did!
Here is my question:
You mentioned about you had to remember to drive on the left side of the road there, right? I am interested in car driving and I remembered my teacher told us before,he said "If there is a President , the drivers have to drive on the right side of the road. In the other hand, there is an Emperor who have to drive on the left side.
Is it right?
Thanks.
Best wishes

Henry

The essay is very well written. It is expressed in easily understandable conversational English. Explicit descriptions of the series of circumstances and disasters make it interestingly amusing and entertaining. Reading it makes one feel like he was there along with the party the whole time. I enjoyed reading it. Thank you, Alan.
