[quote="Yamilet"]Some colleges and universit(ies) require students to live on campus all (four) years. Do you think this is a good policy? Why or why not?
Living on a campus the whole (four) years of study is necessary depending on where these college(s) or universit(ies) are located, and also depending on who the students are.
I can understand these polic(ies) being required for students, if the location is far away from their homes, and located in a secluded area. However, it is really (im)practical and unrealistic for the educational centers to require th(is) from students if the schools are located in the city. Many people cannot afford to live on their own, that's why I believe this is not a functional policy for students wanting an education. But I have to admit that regardless of my opinion these (policies have) advantages as well.
There is a reason why I believe that the implementation of such (a) policy can bring some advantages to those students who can afford living on campus .
For example, younger students can benefit from this policy, and learn how to live on their own, and away from home. They will learn to cook, and maintain a healthy life style. They will gain self-confidence as well as maturity which will help them become a stronger, and (more) independent person in the future. However, this also has some disadvantages, by being on their own, and being at an age in which sometimes they don't think before they act, (t)hey are at a higher risk of becoming involved in alcohol, and drug abuse, and consequently sexually activ(ity).
This policy seems unrealistic for regular people. Not many can afford to pay the amount required for them to be able to live on campus. Others have a family, wife, and (children) waiting for them at home. At the same time, they have a big responsibility of providing for that family, and spending time with them.
For example (I myself) plan on going to college, or university soon, since the schedule is realistic I will be able to meet the time required for me to study.
I know that at the end of the day, I will be home taking care of my son. Because this university and college do not have such policies, it makes it easier, and possible for myself, and millions of people like me to study. As a result we are able to get our education and raise our families at the same time.
Briefly, and for these reason(s) mentioned above, I believe that such (a) policy is good for some people, but at the same time bad for others. They have positive, and negative effect(s) on the lives of students. The situation of each person wanting to study means a lot in understanding the consequences of such rule(s). But for myself this is not a good policy, because it would prevent me from having the education I want and being with my family at the same time.
Great, as usual.
