Whereas and where: Can they be used interchangeably? #1 (permalink) Sat Aug 15, 2009 17:30 pm   Whereas and where: Can they be used interchangeably?

When do we use them in context of 'whereas'? Can they be used interchangeably?

Technically, a tank top has wider bands of fabric that go over the shoulder, where a strap top has just that, thin straps only.

Would it still be correct if i said 'whereas' instead of 'where' in this sentence? If not, what is the difference?

Whereas and where #2 (permalink) Sun Aug 16, 2009 19:57 pm   Whereas and where

Hi,
"Whereas" and "While" are used to show a normal contrast between 2 sentences:
I live in Iran, whereas my brother lives in Canada.
Therefore,it's not a proper alternative for "Where".
