Difference between finally and eventually? #1 (permalink) Tue Sep 06, 2005 16:30 pm   Difference between finally and eventually?

Hello there,

I wonder if anyone on this distinguished forum can tell me if there is a difference between the words finally and eventually? Thanks!

They both mean lastly in a way but finally simply means in the end. Eventually also means finally but after a long series of delays as in: We locked all the doors and shut all the windows and finally left for the airport at 6 am but when we got there we found there was a strike, then the plane needed to be serviced again, then we discovered that there were no stewards available and we had to get off the plane. Eventually we took off at 1130 in another plane.
