Hi,

A: How would you like to pay for this?
B: I'll pay in cash.

For B, is it okay to say "I'll pay cash" i.e., without "in"? What do you think? Of course, I think A would understand the meaning. I'm curious whether it's grammatical or not.

Thanks,
sweetpumpkin

Hi SP,

I think 'in' is not needed in this sort of conversation. Actually I've got a plumber coming round in 20 minutes and I'm going to ask him: How much if I pay cash?

You would only use 'in' if you are describing the payment as in: The customer paid the plumber £40 in cash.
