Hi,

This expression is often used like this: Do you mind repeating that? I didn't quite catch what you said. 'Catch' in this sense is similar to 'grasp', which as Bill has said above, suggests 'understand'.

Interestingly the BBC is currently promoting the annual festival of music held in London (July - September) when concerts are performed every night throughout that season. The advertisement shows people looking up at the sky and seeing a number of musical notes floating in the air and a voice says: Catch every note and listen to BBC radio 3. This has the double meaning of 'listen to' and 'get hold of.'
