Do you think that TV programs, movies ans video games influence young people's behaviour?
People's personality is build by two main things : genetics but also environment. Environment includes many factors such as education but also entertainment. Especially I believe that young people's behavior can be influenced by television programs, movies and video games.
First, teenagers are looking for a kind of idol, a model to follow. Their character is not yet totally build and they tend to be unstable. So in order to know how to behave in their life they refere to what seems good to them. As they are often in conflict with their parents, they admire more the heroes on TV, movies or video games. For instance many young girls try to copy the style of their favorite actress whereas boys will be willing to do karate because of one video game.
Then, young people are very sensitive and vulnerable. They do not have the maturity and experience of an adult. Hence they can be easily shocked by something they see on TV that was not suitable for them. Watching how one character dies after using drugs or pornography can have an appaling effect on a fragile mind. This is due to the fact that young people do not always take account that what they see on a screen is not the reality.
Eventually, people even older reproduce inconsciously what they see. Watching always the same politics program on television will make you have the same opinion. In fact medias are scarcely objective consequently your opinion on some subject can be biased by what you have been a public to. It is well-known that some important channels present you some programs that will dicrease your intelligence to make buy to make buy the things you see on the next advertisement.
To conclude it seems to me obvious that cinema, TV and video games have an effect on teenagers personality. This influence can be for the best - like giving them food for thought as for the worst- like the Columbine massacre.
thanks for giving your opinion
