Would you turn in a family member? #1 (permalink) Fri Aug 21, 2009 12:00 pm   Would you turn in a family member?

If you knew that a member of your family was guilty of a crime, would you report him or her to the police?

I was thinking about this recently, because in my city a very tall 12-year-old boy recently robbed and killed a young woman. His father figured out what he had done and took him to the police to be arrested.

Also, in the United States, if parents find a lot of drugs in their child's drawer or pockets, many of them will report their child to the police.

Would you report your family member to the police, or would you try to protect him from the police?

I am with the father who took his son to the police because of the crime he had done.
There is no doubt that if they tried to protect them they will rubbed and killed again so they need to be punished for what they had done to protect them and their societies.
It is not easy at all to be in a such situation and it is not the falt of their sons only they raised them in this way.It was their responsibitity to protect them from bad friends and bad enviroments.
Parents like them deserve these suffuring I mean the suffer of seeing their sons killers, rubbers and in jail..
But if I were them I don`t know what to do.

Sandy, some kids come out bad no matter how you raise them. I know one family where four of the children are doctors, lawyers and factory foremen, and the fifth one is a career criminal. They all say that he was raised the same way the rest of them were, and that he made his own choices.

Also, check your spelling. A "rubber" and a "robber" are not the same thing. Wink

Hi Jamie,

It's nice to have a helping person such as yourself back on the boards.

As to the topic, I wouldn't turn in my kindred, but I wouldn't protect them, either. My philosophy is that it's up to them to realize their own mistakes and to do the proper thing.

I think that in the case of the murder and robbery, I would have done what the father did and turned him in to the police. I wouldn't want it on my conscience that I had let a bloodthirsty 12-year-old run around the street after I knew what he had done.

hi jamie
Am sure I'll turn him to the police because if he does not realise his mistakes at the age of 12 he will never do, and he has to be responsible of his oun actions ,in the other hand I believe that if I protect him once he will think that I will protect him what ever he does
