Dear Alan,

Which sentence is correct? If B is wrong, would you please explain why it is so?

A) it's a letter that no smart job-seeker should send his or her resume without.

B) it's a letter that no smart job-seeker should send his or her resume without it.

Thanks alot

Hi AM,

(A) is the correct sentence because this really means: It's a letter without which no smart job-seeker should send his or her resume. In other words 'without' refers back to 'letter' and in (B) 'it' is therefore not needed because the connection is already made.
