Meaning of "go" #1 (permalink) Sun Aug 23, 2009 18:45 pm   Meaning of "go"

Hello everyone

I'd like to ask about the meaning of "go" in the following context:

The first secret soul center is the Message Center. From the point at the middle of your sternum or breastbone (in traditional Chinese medicine, this is the Shan Zhong acupuncture point), go 2.5 cun inside your body. (The cun is a unit of measurement used in traditional Chinese medicine. One cun is defined as the width of the top joint of the thumb at its widest part. Although this varies from person to person, it is roughly equivalent to one inch.) That is the center of your Message Center, which is a fist-sized energy center. The Message Center is also known as the heart chakra.

What puzzles me most of all is the verb form, i.e 'go'. If it were "goes" in place of "go" it would make a little more sense to me.

Hi Klpno,

I would suggest 'go' here is used as an imperative -telling someone what to do. In a simpler explanation you could say: Walk up that road and then go across the field.

Does that make sense?

Alan

Go, as an imperative, does make sense to me. Thank you very much, Alan.
