Hi,

I'm preparing for the TOEIC and I'm using this book called 30 days to the TOEIC. In the listening comprehension exercises of day 6 there are some grammar things I need some clarification. For example, in one question a woman asks 'Should we stay late today, or finish this in the morning?' This is what the woman says on the tape. In the book (in the tapescript) the question reads 'Shall we stay late today, or finish this in the morning'? Now I want to know if there is a difference between shall and should in this context.

Thanks for your support.

There is a slight difference. Should we stay has the idea of: Ought we to stay? Is it right for us to stay?

Shall we stay has the idea of: Do you think it's a good idea to stay? What about staying ...?
