So, he had given them every chance to accept him, but nobody ever had.
Even the odd one who had spoken to him had quickly withdrawn their friendship once it became apparent to them that he was a little "strange".
Just what was "strange" about him?
He had no idea, but he just couldn't take any more of their ignoring him.
.
Even his own parents had really had little time for him, simply feeding and clothing him, and then sending him out on his own to make his own entertainment.
He'd always been shunned by the others, and he'd spent most of his time in the movies, living his dreams through the actors on the screen.

At school he had been most studious and had gained a free scholarship to the university, much to the amazement of his parents.
But even here, he was still ignored and even laughed at by the girl students.
It seemed that he was doomed to live his life as a nonentity.
What kind of life would that be?
Surely it was time for everyone to know just who he really was.
With this in mind he slowly, but surely, amassed an arsenal of weapons.

He chose an early Monday morning to enter the watchtower that stood in the centre of the campus.
He climbed the many stairs until he finally reached the high flat roof.
From here he had an unobscured view of the whole campus.
He firmly secured the door behind him and satisfied himself that it would take an army to break through.

Oh, he was certain they would break through, but not without first paying a terrible price for their entry.
He laid out the rifle and loaded the shotgun.
He stacked all his cartridges along the low wall.
He know he would need them for his assault on the campus, if it went as he'd planned then he might use them all.

He watched without concern as the students walked toward the university entrance, and toyed with just who would be his first victim.

A girl, it would be a girl, because girls above all others, had given him the most sadness in his life.
He adjusted the telescopic sights on the rifle and chose the first girl on the steps of the university.
The first shot took them all by surprise, and before they had a chance to identify where the shot had came from two other pupils were left bleeding on the steps.
The panic was contagious.
People running in all directions.
He knew it wouldn't be long before they would be calling for the police, well let them, that was why he was here wasn't it?

He knew he would die here, but that was of little interest to him.
He'd never known love or true friendship, only disinterest and rejection in his whole lifetime.
Well, now it was his turn to bask in the limelight.
Oh yes, they would all know his name before this day was over.

He continued to fire and reload the rifle.
People were dropping like flies before his onslaught.

He counted fourteen before he heard the wail of the approaching police cars, and behind them the black SWAT vehicle.
He continued to fire and counted another three victims.
In the distance he saw the approaching TV
van.

So, he had made the local news.
He had hoped for country-wide coverage, but local TV would do for a start.
He only hoped that they would get their cameras into action before the SWAT team broke through the door.

He could hear them clambering up the stairs below.
It was obvious that they didn't want him to stay in the limelight too long.
The faster this could be concluded the better, but he had no intention of making it easy for them.

They had stopped at the door, and he knew they were going to blast it open and rush at him.
While they were deciding just what to do he used the moments to shoot another two students.
He loaded the shotgun and held it in a firing position.
He reckoned it was coming up to finale time.

Just as he thought, the door blasted open and the SWAT team stormed into the bright sunlight.
Their momentary hesitation and loss of vision cost them three men, and then they opened fire on him.
He died instantly from their concentrated firepower.

At last he was about to receive the infamy he had always craved for.
Everyone wanted to know his name and every tiny detail about him.
His picture was shown on TV and all local and national newspapers.
He had finally found the recognition that he had hungered for his whole life!

Icy, that is all that nonentities crave,................ fame and notoriety.

Who shot Kennedy? Harvey Lee Oswald.

Who shot John Lennon? David Chapman.

Both nonentities. Both go down in history for their actions.
Dying is a small price to pay to be remembered for all time.
