Present simple tense in the newspaper. #1 (permalink) Thu Aug 27, 2009 19:59 pm   Present simple tense in the newspaper.

hello to all and sundry ESL experts.
Please let me know that we read the newspaper in which we come across with the news of past that is yesterday news. but It is always written in present simple tense
especially The Headings.

what is the reason behind it.Why the simple present tense is mostly used?

Thanks in advance.

Hi
this is the method of writting news. i've passed reporting course and there we learned that we have to use simple present in compiling news, especially for their topics. i don't know the exact reason, but may be they should be like this in order to attract more attention. it is not related to english grammar, instead you have to ask news reporters what the reason is. good luck
