Driving home from the disco wasn't as difficult as he had thought it would be.
Sure, he'd had a few too many drinks, but he could handle it, and he was driving so steadily and safely, even Sophie, who had downed a few herself agreed, his driving was damned near perfect!

They passed a parked police car and he had already slowed before they had neared it.
Sophie waved to the two cops sitting in the car, and they waved back in a friendly fashion.

Ben felt great.
It had been a good night with their friends in the disco, but it had sure been hot in there, and that is the reason they had both downed too many drinks.
Never mind, not far to go now and they would be home, safe and sound.

It had started to rain and Ben started to wipers.
Damn, he'd meant to renew the blades last week, but he had completely forgotten to do so.
The blades raced across the screen, producing a squeaky sound and a smeared screen.

He didn't want to drive too far like this, it was dangerous to say the least.
Almost zero vision, and the rain streaming down the screen.
His confidence was slowly seeping away but sobriety was still too far away to make him stop until the rain did.

What did stop him was the wagon that crossed the road in front of him, the wagon that he had failed to even see.
They collided with full force and both Ben and Sophie were flung against the windscreen with tremendous force.
They both crawled out of the car and made their way across to the roadside.

Ben didn't think he had any broken bones and Sophie looked OK.
They went across to the wagon which had suffered serious damage to the side, but otherwise seemed to be in good shape.

The shrill sound of the approaching police car drew their attention and they started to fabricate their excuses for the accident.
"Leave all the talking to me, said Ben, and don't get close enough for them to smell your breath."
"OK," replied Sophie.

As they approached the police Ben took out his driving licence to show the officers.
"Poor kids, they never stood a chance in a pile-up like this," said the older policeman.
Ben looked past the policemen and saw both himself and Sophie laying back in the front seats, both covered in blood, and both quite dead.

The way you led the text to the very final line was prominent. A lot of moral here. Enjoyed it greatly.
