They "bumped" my flight? #1 (permalink) Mon Aug 31, 2009 22:43 pm   They "bumped" my flight?

Hi guys,

could you please help me with the word "bumped" in the following context? For example, I ask my friend: "Why aren't you on the plane to LA? " And my friend will say: "I couldn't go there, they bumped my flight". What does it mean "bumped"? They postponed my flight? They canceled my flight??? I checked some english dictionaries and didn't find the appropriate meaning..:(

thanks in advance

hey PM,

my dictionary suggests bumpīs meaning similar to hit/meet in the common acknowledged use but also might can mean eliminate or kill or cancel.

Thus your second assumption seems right.

regards
Michael
