Hi,
There are regular patterns of the conditional sentence. Technically yours should read:
1. If I knew you were coming to my home I would prepare some nice dishes for lunch.
2. It would have been better if we had had all the setups ready for our work.
I have written some notes on the different forms, which you might find useful:

"If I had known you were coming to my home, I would have prepared some nice dishes for lunch."
Maybe you were looking for an alternative Ski? _________________ Keep it simple ... Keep it interesting. |

Thanks for your replies. Can I say second one as:- "It would be better if we have all the setups ready for our work." I want to say it in present. Work is yet to start but we need to setup the environments first then the actual work will start. Actually I am a software testing professional and here with environment means software product configuration in test environment. I meant to say test case execution can not start right now as the product setups are not ready.
I am not able comfortable with two "had" you are using. Can you explain this usage to me? To show my understading say I visited Boston last year. Today I can say- " I have had a good time in Boston." But here I need some help to comprehend this sentence. |

Conditional sentences type 2: If I knew (past) that you are coming to my house, I would make something special for you.
| Nilanjan De wrote: |
| I had been in your position I would not have forgiven him. |
Conditional sentences type 3: IF I had been in your position, I would not have forgiven him. Example: If I HAD LIVED in Japan as a child, (I WOULD HAVE LEARNED Japanese(past), I WOULD SPEAK Chinese perfectly now, I WOULD DO business there in the future.)
| Nilanjan De wrote: |
| I will have reached home by evening. |
Future perfect +by+ future tense adverb I will have finished this book by next weak.
| Nilanjan De wrote: |
| What will be the answer of the question :Have you ever been to the U.S. will the answer be yes I had been to the U.S. |
Have you ever been in the U.S? -yes How long have you been in America? -I have been there 3 months.(present perfect=subject + have/has + p.p) I had been there before (past tense) I went to Germany.

To be serious about what you are saying or writing, like: I meant what I said earlier. But I haven’t heard (I mean it) does anyone know? _________________ Global Marketing |
