Hello everybody,

What’s the difference between ‘say’, ‘state’ and ‘remark’ to use in the sentence.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Rosario,

'Say' is the most common of the three and of course is used in reported speech: She said that she was washing her hair tonight.

'State' has an official sense about it: The police stated that the murder was committed late last night.

'Remark' is more frequently used as a noun but as a verb is mainly used in narrative to suggest a comment made by someone:

'That's a beautiful garden you have', he remarked, as we walked out of the back door.
