We are going to school - what it means? #1 (permalink) Mon Sep 14, 2009 22:09 pm   We are going to school - what it means?

What is the exact meaning of the phrase: "we are going to school"?
Is it more close to "we are walking to school" or "we are preparing to go to school", or something else?
Should I use this phrase if I am on my way to school?
Thks

Hi,

'We are going to school' means we are on our way to school now. This could be on foot/by bus/by train/by car or however.

There is one more thing I'd like to know about that.
For example, if I have an intention to go to school in 3 hours, will it be correct to say "I am going to school in 3 hours"?
Or "I am going to go to school in 3 hours"?
And if I have a firm decision to to go to school in 3 hours, should I say "I'll be going to school in 3 hours"?

Hi Fedorov,

You can say: I am going to school in 3 hours. This is just a simple statement of fact.

You can say: I am going to go to school in 3 hours. This expresses your intention to do this.

You can say: I'll be going to school in 3 hours. This also expresses your intention and adds the idea that this is important because it will prevent you from doing anything else.

One other point - Don't forget when you ask a question, it should be: What does this mean?

' we are going to school' İ think it means that you are doing the action at the moment. İ mean you are in a process of doing.
we are going to school in grammartically used PRESENT CONTİNİOUS TENSE.
